Summer in Austin is a magical and hot time of year, filled with vibrant colors, lively music, and an endless list of activities that make the most of the sunny weather. This year, my summer bucket list is packed with quirky and quintessential experiences that capture the spirit of Austin. From picking strawberries to playing pinball, here’s a whimsical rundown of my top 15 things to do this summer. Some of these I’ve already checked off my list and some I’ve yet to do…
1. Fresh Strawberry Picking at Sweet Berry Farm
What’s more summery than biting into a juicy, freshly picked strawberry? Sweet Berry Farm, located just a short drive from Austin, offers a delightful strawberry-picking experience. Armed with a basket and a sunhat, I can wander through the rows of strawberry plants, selecting the ripest berries. The best part? Turning those berries into homemade strawberry jam to savor summer’s sweetness all year long.

2. Indulging in Ice Cream at Amy’s
No summer is complete without copious amounts of ice cream, and Amy’s Ice Creams is an Austin institution. Known for their eclectic flavors and mix-ins, Amy’s offers a fun and delicious escape from the Texas heat. My goal is to try a new flavor each week, starting with Mexican Vanilla, moving on to Belgian Chocolate, and finishing with their seasonal specials.
3. Splashing Around at Liz Carpenter Splash Pad
When the sun is blazing, there’s nothing like cooling off in a splash pad. Liz Carpenter Splash Pad in Butler Park is perfect for families with little kids like mine and those who are young at heart. With its whimsical fountains and shallow wading areas, it’s a great spot for a refreshing afternoon of water play. I’ll be there, running through the fountains with my toddlers and enjoying the laughter of children and adults alike.

Another fantastic indoor activity with little kids is a visit to Indigo Play. This indoor playground is designed with a whimsical forest theme, making it a magical place to explore. I’ll join my little ones in the imaginative play, crawling through tunnels, sliding down slides, and climbing to new heights. It’s a perfect escape for a hot summer day.

One of the quintessential Texas summer experiences is floating down the river. The San Marcos River, with its clear, cool waters, is the ideal spot for a relaxing float.
